"A Sociopath in love"

James: A devout boy who is constantly searching for "something better"

Mary: James love interest... they date and consecutively lose their virginity to each other and is the first falter seen of James losing his faith.

Chuck: James' role model upon arriving at the university. He plays the role of "Jesus" to James as a disciple. Right when James starts to believe he has a worthwhile friend in Chuck, he (Chuck) dies from being hit by a speeding car on his way across the campus.

Jessica: A very gorgeous girl that James decides to pursue after Chuck dies. She serves as a "pretty band-aid" that James uses to drown the reality he is now living and in a duet with Mary makes one of the worst decisions of his life and leaves Mary for Jessica. James and Jessica break up after a dispute where Jessica prods James into an argument that turns violent.

Mary's Friend's:
Comprised mostly of juniors and seniors. One by one they graduate and leave the story.

Jessica's friends:
Comprised mostly of Freshmen and Sophomores. They make their opinions and presence known throughout the story and most of the people that James becomes friends with end up gravitating to Jessica because of her uncharacteristic beauty and "innocent me" routine.

"Missing Mary" - Song at the end that creates a cumulative synopsis of the events to date and is centered on his love for the lost Mary.

Working Synopsis:

James is a seemingly average college age student who works consistently to always be favored among his peers. He is going to school to major in acoustic design and engineering and volunteers in the dwindling drama department. He has run away from home to try and go to college on his own and since attending the university of his choosing he is starting to discover the nature of the "four-year friend." Having been someone who trusts too easily and finds himself getting socially screwed over we follow his journey as he makes, loses and gains the knowledge that the only person you will ever be able to truly count on if the world were to end, is yourself.

[sounds of a domestic dispute offstage, people yelling and the sound of a bottle being thrown. Silence follows for a brief period and the sound of a door being forced open punctuates a slowly rising crescendo of power chords as James makes his entrance with a shoulder bag and a backpack with clothes hastily stuffed into the pockets. He is holding a bible.]

J: (to himself) I had to get out, I had to... that isn't my home anymore.

[break]

J: I had to leave, those people behind... had to leave and shut the door.

[break]

J: God, there's gotta be something greater

When the only person counting on myself
is the person standing right here
